About Us
Vancouver Granite Works, Inc., located in historic Vancouver, Wash., has been serving Vancouver and Portland area families' memorial needs since 1921.

We are the Fuerstenberg family - Bruce, Vicki and (son) Joey - and we take great pride in the work we do for families and for the community. Because we are family-owned and operated, we understand the needs of families and are dedicated to helping families create a memorial that commemorates those important people and events in their lives.

Telling Stories is What We Do
What makes Vancouver Granite Works different is how we see our purpose. We are dedicated to working with you to blend the right materials, sentiments, images and symbols that invoke the life story of your loved one - their personality, hobbies, favorite sayings, spirituality or gifts to the world. The legacy created by a well-made memorial gives strength to the family of the loved one and to the community as a whole.

Fine Art, Fine Craft
All of our design and detail work - including art and lettering - is performed in our onsite modern production facility by skilled craftworkers. This ensures the highest quality and the best results. Our showroom and surrounding grounds provide the backdrop for display of the wide variety of memorials available in both granite - in the largest selection of granite colors in the Portland/Vancouver area - and bronze. Or, we can work with you to create a unique design that mirrors what you envision.

Family Value
Because we craft the memorials in our modern production facility, we are able to better control cost resulting in extraordinary quality and value. Every memorial we craft will include name, dates, any of our unique designs, unlimited endearment messaging, a paper layout and a written warranty that guarantees its quality and endurance. Vancouver Granite Works' dedicated staff is amongst the most highly trained in the industry. With three Certified Memorialists and highly trained artists on staff, we offer significant industry knowledge and skill, commitment to customer care, creative vision and adherence to a strict code of professional conduct.

A Bit of VGW History
Vancouver Granite Works opened its doors for business in 1921 at the corner of 5th and Davis. In the mid-1960s, M.L. Fuerstenberg began working for then-owner, George Mielke. M.L. and his wife Gert later took over operations from Mielke. In 1974, their son - current owner Bruce Fuerstenberg - joined them in the business as well. At the end of 1986, M.L. and Gert retired and Bruce and his wife Vicki took over the business.

In 1993, Bruce and Vicki realized that they were outgrowing the original building and moved to their current location on 18th Street in Vancouver. Their business continued expanding, and, in 1995, their son Joey joined the business.

The family participates in a number of organizations within the Memorial Industry. Bruce, Vicki and Joey Fuerstenberg have each earned the designation of Certified Memorialist (CM) from the association of Monument Builders of North America (MBNA) of which they are members. Vicki is also the current president of the Pacific Northwest Monument Builders Association (PNMBA) and Bruce is past president of both the PNMBA and the MBNA.
